There are two categories of research paper which are conducted at the college. The first one is known as 'College Research Paper' which is supervised and marked by the Command and Staff College Directing Staffs. In here, Student Officers are given different themes on which each student officer selects the theme of his choice to write on. On completion, the research paper is then presented to Sponsor Directing Staff for verification and lastly for marking as well. At the end of the course, the best student with the best research paper is awarded by the College.

The second category is prepared, supervised and marked by Institute of Accountancy Arusha for Post Graduate and Diploma programes in Strategic Studies which is conducted by the Institute of Accountancy Arusha affiliated by Command and Staff College. Student Officers are allowed to choose or pinpoint their own topic to write a research paper.
